Collaborative divorce allows you to preserve your privacy

Some people live their lives like they are starring in their own reality television show. No detail is too small, no drama too picayune to avoid playing itself out all over the person's social media feeds.

But others are far more private and circumspect about their lives and the travails of their relationships. When the latter group winds up in the midst of a divorce, they may loathe the idea that the intimate details of their private lives can become fodder for anyone's curiosity.

Because divorces are public records, all someone has to do is go to the civil courthouse and request to check out a file. While the files can generally not be removed from the courthouse, they can be perused at leisure and pages copied for a small charge.

If you really want to keep the details of your split from prying eyes, you should consider filing for a collaborative divorce. When the two parties agree to the terms of the divorce, all that is needed is a judge's approval to finalize the agreement, which can be summarized in very general terms that reveal little to no personal details.

This is the course of action most celebrities take when they split from their spouses or romantic partners. But you don't have to be famous to reap the benefits of mediation and other forms of collaborative divorce.

Mediation de-escalates an often-tense process between two parties with varying degrees of emotional investment in one another and the marriage. As experienced mediators, we can be an effective buffer between our client and their spouse during the negotiation process.
